Was anyone else as disgusted as I was about the lack of media coverage? I didn't see anything on any of the local tv stations' websites. We caught a short story on tv on News14, but didn't watch any other stations, although I heard that WBTV had something. Maybe someone could fill me in? How about the Observer? They put a small picture with a little caption on the second page of the Local section. Over 2500 people, and this is it? My husband and I have been talking about canceling our subscription to the weekend Observer for a long time because we hate to give them any of our money, but we like the Sunday ads and coupons. Well, this was the final straw. He called this morning and canceled, and he let them know why. We can find coupons online and all the stores advertise online and we can even read the Observer online without giving them a penny. There, I feel better now.

NC 36, after i complained to the director, aired NC 14s story. They said they are news parrtners. But some events, aka obamma in nc, havde ALL media there. Why did they not swap for obamas?

We have to stop relying on government media outlets and create our own.

Anyone a producer for the local public access? We get a show, promote it and air anything we want. Do the guerilla marketing necessary for this region. Call it MEDIA TRUTH. What the big stations will not cover or tell you.

I too thought it was pretty sad.

Along with the media's conspicuous absence, the lack of (visible) law enforcement and other city officials kind of made me feel as if we were simply being ignored out a lack of concern or interest.  Almost as if we were or little to no significance, threat, importance, or otherwise.  Kind of like little children play-acting at some grown up game.

Soon enough they won't be able ignore, deny or hide the situation that is unfolding across the US.  A that point, their failure to recognize we will not be further treaded upon will be the day of their reckoning.

Channel 14 was the first ones on scene, and did a good story.  WBTV showed up considerably later, and I did not see their story.  WSOC showed up towards the end, and again, I did not see their story.

Richard,  Speak Out Charlotte has a cable-access show which airs on 21 on Tuesdays at 7pm.  They are very supportive of the cause, and I have a good rapport with them.  Ideas?

Molon Labe, I am concerned that your posts seem to indicate that you are ready to take to the streets with pitchforks and torches.  The Charlotte Tea Party is not a "to the barricades!" organization.  There are probably other organizations out there which might be a better match for your interests, if that is your aim.  Regarding city officials, I did see Warren Cooksey and Karen Bentley there; they are both strong conservatives and it was a pleasure to see them.  As far as police presence, well, I would say that that speaks highly of our organization that the police did not need to come out there en force.  I spoke with the CMPD last week, and they said that they would probably just have some officers swing by to check on things, but that we have never had a singe incident at any of our events, and so they did not feel that they needed to have a large presence there on Independence Day.  We have a good reputation for leaving the grounds cleaner than how we found them, never having incidents with police, and being very civil and family-friendly.  I think most people would like to keep that reputation intact.

Jeffersonian:

From my observations on Saturday, I would whole-heartedly agree with with your statements above, and I agree your approach is the right one.

Let me be clear, resorting to violence, or allowing it to get to that point, is exactly what I am trying to prevent.  As I have said in my earlier posts, education and awareness are our mightiest weapons.

To be sure, however, twice in our history have Americans risen in arms against their government for abuses less than we suffer today.  However, hopefully, with God's grace we have moved beyond the need to resort to such means.

That being said, my posts do reflect the situation as I see it today; mainly that the political system in our country is broken at the federal level, and to a lesser degree at the state and local levels.  Additionally, and to a much more dangerous degree, our financial system is insolvent and dramatically flawed.  This combination creates a recipe for absolute disaster, and relying on politicians - at any level - to steer us clear is like giving the putting the fox in charge of the henhouse.

The risks we face today are greater than ever before.  The rapid rise of organizations like yours across the nation speak to this fact.  Americans know something is drastically wrong. but they are not fully aware of what is, nor do they yet grasp the severity of the situation, nor the consequences if we fail to turn things around.

My only intent here, and everywhere, is to educate others on the seriousness and complexity of what is happening at an ever-increasing speed.  Unfortunately, this often requires passages of "shock and awe," as we are a nation that is largely too busy or otherwise to actively engage unless someone knocks us over the head.  Last October was but a wake-up call for what's coming in 2010 - 2011.

Americans need to understand and be prepared that like the USSR in early 90's, and more recently Argentina, we too are susceptible, and highly likely, to be confronted with a massive collapse of our economy, and thus perhaps an acute and violent breakdown of the social contact.  How we deal with that break-down is worth discussing now.

It is for this reason that I beseech all that read my words to educate themselves, prepare and train for the worst, work and pray for the best, and stand ready to prevail with cooler heads.  For if we don't, there will sadly come a day where, not unlike the young Iranians recently have done, or the American colonists on April 19, 1775, we may be forced to defend ourselves in the streets with your pitchforks and torches.

I think we all expect that the media is not on our side.It takes hours of prep and makeup to make a politician appear to be honest and have integrity to the voters. The people need not to worry about the coverage of a tea party we are there for each other and our country! We will be heard if we unite.

I have to say I was disappointed by the turnout and also the way it ended with a parade of politicians selling us on their stance on taxes and other issues I think the politicians are the problem they tell us what we want to hear and we are suppose to clap, then the guy from the Republican party wants to take back the party through the Tea Party movement like that could happen.

Lets hit the reset button and start over theres what maybe 10 guys out of thousands in D.C. we can trust so why feed this monster anymore?. Lets not elect anybody whos going to show up in D.C. and be educated by the people who are in charge today and corrupt them we need people who will tell them why they have been elected and not be afraid  to dismantle the machine with the truth and the constitution!

OMG STOP BUYING VOTES!.

I say the tea party sticks to the basics

Thats my take Alan Ross
