This opening line may sound a little squishy itself but please bare with me. "I was checking facebook posts the other day and..." eugh, I can't believe this is happening.
So I was checking facebook posts the other day and I noticed that a lot of my friends that are not politically involved at all were really upset about conservatives and the "Right" dissing on Obama's Peace Prize. They were stating things like, "How is it a bad thing that the World respects and admires our President?" Another said, "I do not follow the back and forth of politicians, but the "Right" just wants to bash on our President and see him fail." Of course I saw a liberal friend of mine from college posting, "So apparently it's a bad thing that the World now admires our leader after 8 years of an imbecile in the White House." Awesome...just awesome.
How do we get that squishy middle to understand that this President and the far left leaders of this country actually want to take us on a path towards Socialism? How do we make them understand that "the World" wants to see a weaker America? Why do we have to make them understand that these are two very bad things? (Public education?)
I think that sometimes we forget that when we (the right wing, conservatives) respond we are not just talking to each other. We are also talking to or being overheard by that squishy middle that only really hears bits and pieces of what is going on. We have to explain our position better, make people understand that as hard as it is to believe, "the World" is largely opposed to a strong America, both economically and militarily. So when they bestow this great honor on our President who has accomplished nothing and admit that is on the basis of hope for what he might do in the future what is "the World" really saying? To us it is so obvious, but to the squishy middle you have to step back and remember that they do not understand the premise. "The World" would love to see a weaker America and they think B.O. is the guy to lead them us down that path.
Its hard to admit this, but I think there is an entire generation that we expect to understand certain things and by and large they just do not. It's my generation, the people from 15-35 that really do not have a clue what the end result of socialism really is. The end result is not equal opportunity, it is an equal amount of things. How do you make someone struggling to find a job that if the the government was not redistributing the wealth of a business owner the business owner would be able to expand and create more jobs? People of my generation do not realize that taking money from Peter to pay Paul is a temporary fix, it satisfies Paul for only an instant. He will need more of Peter's money pretty quickly. But if you allow Peter to keep his money, he just might open another office in a new city, hiring new workers along the way. If one of those workers is Paul, Paul is a heck of a lot better off than being dependent on the government to give him some more of Peter's money. But what politician wants to stand up and cut unemployment benefits and taxes on the wealthy to support this example? You talk about an unpopular idea! But we all agree with this economic principle because it has been proven a thousand times. I think we need to be more clear about these points because we take for granted that everyone understands these principles. I guarantee you that most people do not, especially those that reside in that squishy middle. Please, do not misunderstand me and think that I want to cater our ideas to be popular with the squishy middle. I just think that we have to educate them on some of these very basic principles before we start winning arguments and convincing them that "The Right" is right when it comes to economics.
If we do not figure this out quick, fast and in a hurry we will all be living with an equal amount of things doled out to us by a benevolent central government. Most everyone will have 2 meals a day and a roof over their heads, but won't have the liberty to grow a business, thrive in a free-market economy and be self sustaining without a helping hand from government.
Some may be comfortable trading the government's helping hand with their liberties and freedoms, but not me. As for me:
