This coming Tuesday, 9/8, the Charlotte City Council has scheduled a vote to override Mayor McCrory's veto of Streetcar engineering funding. The City will spend an initial $4.5 million out of a total of $8 million budgeted for this year if the veto is overridden. This is an absurd amount of money to be spending in this economy on a project that is many years away from construction at best.
If only one of the Democrats breaks from voting along party lines this veto will be upheld.
Susan Burgess voted against seeking permission from the state for additional transit taxes back in June, She may be that one vote. If you are a Charlotte City resident, please contact her this week and urge her to uphold the Mayor's veto. Please let her know that your are resident who votes. It is helpful to provide enough information for her to look up your voting record. Based on past experience, one of the first things politicians do is look up your voting record and see if you actually vote.
If you are interested in getting a group together to attend this City Council meeting on 9/8, please contact Tea Party user rick_clt.
If you can't attend, please forward this information to anyone or any group who may want to attend. Contact your HOA board and see if they want to attend to represent your neighborhood. A strong showing of community leaders may be enough to change this vote.

There are cracks in the Democratic front on this issue. Warren Turner likely would have voted to uphold the veto if the vote had taken place last night. If anyone lives in Charlotte District 3, please contact Warren Turner this week and encourage him to oppose the Streetcar funding.
